Why Thousands of Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana Families Leave Their Boats at the Lake
For many boat owners from Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Northern Kentucky, Indianapolis, and Louisville, the drive to Norris Lake has become a favorite weekend tradition.
But after towing a boat four or five hours a few times, many owners begin asking the same question:
Do I really need to keep hauling my boat back and forth every weekend?
For most families, the answer is no.
In fact, many Aquaknox customers choose to keep their boats on Norris Lake, Fort Loudoun Lake, Tellico Lake, Cherokee Lake, Douglas Lake, or Watts Bar Lake year-round. Whether it’s in a marina slip or on a lift at their lake home, leaving the boat where it’s actually used makes ownership easier, less stressful, and far more enjoyable.
More Time on the Water
If you’re driving from Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Northern Kentucky, or Indiana, you’ve already invested several hours getting to the lake.
The last thing most families want to do is spend another hour launching the boat, parking a trailer, and repeating the process before heading home.
When your boat is already at the lake, your vacation starts the moment you arrive.
Simply uncover the boat, turn the key, and enjoy the water.
You May Not Even Need a Trailer
One of the biggest surprises for many first-time lake homeowners is discovering they don’t necessarily need a trailer.
In fact, many Aquaknox customers don’t own one.
Instead, they keep their boat:
- In a marina slip
- On a private lift at their lake home
- In dry storage near the lake
That means:
- No towing every weekend
- No waiting at crowded launch ramps
- No additional wear on your truck
- No trailer maintenance
- No trailer storage at home
Keeping your boat at the lake often makes ownership simpler—and can even lower your overall ownership costs.
Dockside Care Makes It Even Easier
Keeping your boat at the lake is only convenient if maintaining it is convenient too.
That’s why Aquaknox created our award-winning Dockside Care Program.
Instead of bringing your boat to us for many routine maintenance services, we come to you.
Whether your boat is at a marina or on a lift at your lake home, our mobile service team can perform many scheduled maintenance services right where your boat is located.
For many customers, it means they rarely need to tow their boat anywhere.

Here’s how Dockside Care works:
First Year
When you purchase your boat from Aquaknox, we’ll perform eligible routine service at your dock or marina without a field service charge during your first year of ownership.*
After the First Year
Eligible customers simply pay a $120 trip fee for our team to come directly to their boat.
Winterization Savings
Schedule your annual service and winterization between October 15 and December 15, and if booked by October 15, we’ll waive the field service charge.*
It’s one more reason so many customers from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana choose to leave their boats at the lake instead of towing them home.
Routine Maintenance Still Matters
Whether your boat stays in a marina slip or on a lift, regular maintenance is still essential.
Routine service may include:
- Annual engine service
- Oil changes
- Lower unit service
- Propeller inspections
- Battery testing
- Fuel system maintenance
- Cover inspections
- Cleaning and detailing
Staying ahead on maintenance helps protect your investment while keeping your boat ready for your next weekend at the lake.
Don’t Skip Winterization
Although East Tennessee has relatively mild winters, freezing temperatures are common enough that proper winterization is critical.
Water left inside an engine or plumbing system can freeze and cause thousands of dollars in damage.
Professional winterization typically includes:
- Engine protection
- Fuel stabilization
- Cooling system protection
- Battery maintenance
- Water system protection
- General inspection
Many of our customers live several states away, so knowing their boat has been professionally winterized gives them peace of mind throughout the winter.
Local Service Where You Actually Boat
One of the biggest advantages of buying from Aquaknox is that our service department is located where many of our customers actually use their boats.
Rather than buying from a dealership hundreds of miles away and then trying to coordinate service from another state, our technicians work throughout East Tennessee.
We proudly serve boats located on:
- Norris Lake
- Fort Loudoun Lake
- Tellico Lake
- Cherokee Lake
- Douglas Lake
- Watts Bar Lake
If your boat is on one of these lakes, chances are we can help.
